Although Remy is a cynic, she has been through her fair share of guys (not many of whom she remembers). However, when things got too serious, she would break it off with them. But then one day while organising her mother's newest marriage to cheesy car-salesman, Don, she meets Dexter, who is everything she hates: he's messy, clumsy, impulsive, and of all things, a musician, like her father.
She (unsuccessfully) tries to avoid him at all costs, but he seems to pop up everywhere she goes. Although he is not the usual type of guy she would date, she decides to risk it and go out with him because, after all, he is only a temporary summer boyfriend - right?
I am a real fan of Sarah Dessen's and I was really looking forward to reading this book. It is brilliantly written and I must admit that I was hooked from the second I opened the book! I thought the plot was interesting and I did not really find it as predictable as most YA romantic fiction is these days, however it did drag on a little and the ending was a bit rushed.
Also, being the hopeless romantic that I am, I did find myself getting slightly annoyed with Remy at times - she was overly cynical for my liking. I did not really find her all that relatable, although we both are perfectionists and obsessively organised!
Overall, a good read - definitely worth trying if you, like me, are interested in chick-lit and YA romantic fiction.
